Lone Bute [Butte] (I. McT C [Ian McTaggart Cowan] + P.W. [Patrick Waldyve Martin] May 18/54 [1954]
This morning left Kamloops at
9:30 + drove to Birch Island [words crossed out] Little Fort + across
here. We lunched at Lac des Roches
then drove on to Bridge Lake, N.
Bonaparte + toward Green Lake then
here.
En route we saw 4 deer, cow + calf
moose + 8 willow grouse.
I photographed the vegetation on
a fine fire type fir ridge in
color + b + wh. [black and white] also photos of
heavily browsed willow at Lac des
Roches.
Between there + Bridge Lake the
willows were fairly good. From
Bridge Lake on they were very
heavily browsed everywhere
except for the area 6 mi [miles] E [east] of Lone Butte + goes
almost to Sheridan Lake [note inserted above] Green
Lake where use was light. There
is no obvious reason why this should
be + I can but assume that soil
type is responsible.
