Patrolled to Miette Hot Springs by car
+ then hiked about 3 miles E. [East] + then to
the top of the 6788 ft [foot] ridge. Here I found
some fair summer range for
sheep. The valley bottom + hillsides
are burned but the ridges are
naturally bare. Scattered cliffs
provide sanctuary from predators.
Apparently moose winter in
the region in some numbers.
Found a winter deer kill. A few -
very few - summer elk signs.
Higher up on both sides of Fiddle
Creek. there were pockets of high
grassland capable of supporting a
large summer population of sheep
Game seen:-
Sheep:- 16 [female symbol] 2 yearling [female symbol] 3 yearling [male symbol], 1, 3 yr [year] [male symbol], 1 2 yr [year] [male symbol],
lambs 5.
5 [female symbol], 3 yearl. [yearling] [female symbol], 3 lambs.
1 [female symbol] 2 2 yr [year] [male symbol]'s.
2 4 yr [year] [male symbol] 1 8 yr [year] [male symbol].
Deer:- 1 [male symbol] 3 [female symbol] 1 yearl [yearling] [female symbol]
Bear:- 3 black 1 brown.

Came down here from Jasper this afternoon
to join the outfit.
Warden Frank Borstrom [Burstrom] tells me
that the coyotes killed 5 or 6 sheep to
his knowledge last winter between
