- Rangifer montanus [underlined]
Mt [Mount] Revelstoke July 8/37 [1937].
There is a band of caribou in
the park. I should say about 20-
30 head split into at least two
groups.
I have found signs of their winter-
ing on the slopes of Mt [Mount] Revelstoke
down to 16 mile but the main
wintering ground is behind Mt [Mount] Revelstoke toward Eva Lake.
Today I worked along the sub
alpine country in the east area
+ found fresh caribou tracks of
3 sizes + places where they had
eaten saxifrage + alpine willow.
Dung examined seemed to be entirely
usnea.
In 6 places I found young
balsams that had been stripped
of branches + bark from 30 inches
above ground to a height of 5 +
5 1/2 ft. [feet] Some branches were
on the ground + all tips had
been eaten. In another place
I found where a buck had horned
a tree.
July 21/37 [1937].
Mr Jack Green, barber, Revelstoke
reports caribou abundant N [north] of town on
west side of river, reached by Jordan River
trail. They cross over 6 miles N [north] of town
