that ptarmigan are very plentiful this
winter 1932-33. Indians + half breeds bringing
them to the house for sale.

Two seen by Stewart Racey + party up
on 21 Mile Mountain about 5000 f. [feet]
Sproat Mtn. [Mountain] B.C. [British Columbia] Sept. [September] 8. 1937. [all underlined] Found four
of these birds on rocks by heather slope, alt. [altitude]
5400 [feet]. These were on the north westerly
slope The following day Sept. [September] 9th Covered
valley to S.W. [southwest] + climbed over the mountain
in that direction + at a [two words crossed out] near the top, alt [altitude]
5700 ft. [feet], westerly side, found a flock of
five ptarmigan on the rocks just
below a steep rocky bluff the lower face
of which was covered with heather and a
species of long coarse grass. An ad. [adult]
[female symbol] was secured. Yesterday four consisted
of an ad [adult] [female symbol] + 3 young nearly fully
grown + The four today were an ad [adult]
[female symbol] with four juv [juvenile] about the same size
as the old bird. Saw many sign of
ptarmigan on these mountains south
+ west of Sproat. It is typical ptarmigan
country with large areas of tan rock
+ stone with here + there patches of bush
+ sedges + occasionally small clumps
of stunted spruce. There were many
small lakes + ponds scattered over
this country, some of these very
beautiful. In June + July when the
flowers are at their best this must
be a very beautiful place.
