Left Vancouver Monday,
9:30 AM. Had two blow outs
on way + had to buy new
tires in Lytton. Spent the night
at Merritt.
Left Merritt at 9 AM on 22nd.
Arrived Monashee 4:30 P.M.
Rain nearly all day.
Saw Bobolink at Stump
Lake + Yellowheaded Blackbirds
at Nicola Lake + Swan Lake.
Today arose at 4:30 - still
raining sporadically. Hiked
up the Keefer Lake trail for
about 3 miles + down the
Edgewood road about a mile
from our camp on the
Kettle River
Along the river there is
some quite open country, grassy
with clumps of spruce +
Balsam. Higher up spruce
+ lodgepole pine are the
dominant trees.
Here, at 4000 ft [feet] we seem
to be at the upper edge of
the Canadian Zones.
Birds seen. Pine Grosbeak,
Evening Grosbeak, Bank Swallow,
Trail + Wrights [Gray] Flycatcher, Water
