  • Journal July 8/43 [1943] grass + weed grown river flat with cinquefoil very obvious + with scattered spruce. At the mouth of Divide Creek there is a small burn that extends up to Snow Cr. [Creek] Pass on the S [South] side of the river. The trail then climbs through a beautiful stand of mature pine 2000' to the alpine meadows. The hills up Tyrrell creek show some fine grassy sheep range. Those on the E [East] side of Divide Cr [Creek] are rocky crags with no grass to speak of until the summit of the pass is reached. The mts [mountains] W [West] of Divide creek have some really large grass pastures on their lower slopes + on these [James (Jim)] Simpson has frequently seen rams. Last autumn there were 36 goat on the hill behind (E [East] of) the cabin. Looking south from the Red Deer trail toward the sulphur springs one can see some first rate sheep range Game Seen:- 6 ewe sheep. mouth of Tyrrel Cr. [Creek] 1 goat " " Divide Cr. [Creek] on top. {[bracket around the following 2 lines] 3 deer 3 elk 1 moose Marten droppings, grizzly dr. [droppings] + weasel dr. [droppings] on trail.
