Shot a juvenile Red-tail hawk.
This bird had its feet all over
fish scales + slime + it smelled
very greatly of fish.
[illegible word crossed out] Set another steel trap
In the evening went around
my traps for Phenacomys + tried
for bats but the night was
too cold. On the way back
saw a cow moose.
Aug [August] 11 [1931]. On the way over to the spruce
woods saw the owner of the mysterious nest - a horned
grebe.
One of the steel traps held
a fine dark female mink
Skinned all morning. About
noon it thundered for a little
+ after the storm a large
flight of Black Swifts, night[underlined]
hawks + a violet green [underlined] spa [word crossed out]
swallow [underlined] came over the
camp. I took 6 Black
Swifts retrieving 5 of them.
Aug [August] 12 [1931].
Traps in the Spruce woods took
2 cin. [cinereus] shrews, + dusky shrew.
Saw 3 juvenile short billed gulls
+ one Bonaparte gull
Alan [Racey] took a young male
phenacomys that was very
badly eaten by ants. In the
