Aug. [August] 24/42 [1942]. Shorts Creek
Census [word crossed out] Intermittent sunshine - strong west
wind. Left camp at 6:30 AM. - returning
at 4:30 PM.
Climbed S [south] side hill above camp-
along summit to Goat Mt. [Mountain] down
hillside to creek - back along bottom.
Census:- 10 AM. 3 ewes bedded on N [north] slope all
facing down wind.
1:07. 3 large rams feeding on S [south] slope.
1:15. 8 ewes + 3 lambs feeding +
playing on rocky bluffs of
Goat Mt. [Mountain]. apparently 2 or 3
of these were last years ewes.
3 PM. 1 Large ram bedded in green
woods.
3:30. 5 sheep (1 old ewe, 2 yearling [female symbol]'s
2 yearling rams) coming along
N [north] side hill at full trot
1 old ewe N.[north] slope.
4:40. 13 sheep on N [north] side near camp
standing on rim of bluff
distance 800 yds [yards] so that age
diagnosis difficult but at
least 3 yearling rams + 1 two
year old ram, 3 lambs. other
6 apparently ewes of various
ages.
4:50. Yearling ram alone at lick.
