- Journal. May 29/44 [1944]
this fodder during the winter
Topaz Shelter May 30/44. [1944]
This morning we hiked 2 or 3 miles up
the valley + then climbed up onto the
sheep ranges to the east. Jim [James Simpson] shot
a marmot for his coyote food studies
+ while he was skinning it a wolverine
came along. This I shot. It was a
male in very pale pelage.
Later we ran into a group of sheep
+ were able to count + sex them,
a number of goat were present on
the same range.
The willows along the base of the
grass slides have been heavily
worked by moose + this is apparently
where the moose wintered.
Game seen:- Sheep 21 (10 new)
Goat 13 (10 new)
Deer 5 (4 new)
Moose 2
Caribou 2 both seen before.
