Sandspit. Aug. [August] 20/46 [1946].
In morning grubbed up, packed remainder
of outfit + chartered a trip across to
Sandspit - distance about 10 miles.
Made difficult landing because of low tide
but was received most hospitably by Mr
Fairey, of Dept. [Department] of Transport + given
palatial quarters in the main
buildings. Spent the evening skinning
+ finished up outstanding work.

Worked the meadowland + beaches with
excellent results. Saw many Western
Sandpipers, 6 Leasts, 2 Bairds, 4 Sanderling
1 Buff-breasted, 6 Ruddy Turnstone, + 5 Black
Turnstone. 2 Tree creepers, + the [words crossed out] 5 Townsend
Warblers + many song sp. [sparrows], junco, kinglet,
raven + chickadee. In evening shot
one Myotis californicus. [underlined]

Worked the sandspit + beach after
breakfast with poor results, little but
westerns + leasts moving. Saw one Peales
Falcon. After lunch, at low tide, there
were more waders about. Took 2
more buff-breasted sandpipers. Charlie [Charles J. Guiguet]
saw 4 Black bellied Plover + 3 golden plover
+ took 3 Bairds + 1 pectoral sandpipers.
I saw 3 semipalmated plovers.
