- skulls damaged. Flocks of
crossbills in the spruce -
shot one but it caught
on a branch on the
way down.
Saw two sharp-shinned
Hawks + 4 sparrow hawks [Kestrel].
The chipping sparrows are
flocking now - today saw
about 40 in one flock.
Shot an old hen
spruce grouse - it had a family of well grown
chicks with it
July 26, Ootsa Lake, B.C. [British Columbia]
Traps took very little this
morning so lifted them +
reset further up on the
hill, also some in the
spruce woods. A steel
trap set where a mouse had
been eaten in my trap
held a fine [male symbol] least weasel
to my great surprise
+ joy.
In the afternoon
the wind got up + our
good weather (since July 17)
vanished.
