Breeding habits [underlined] At noon today the large
doe in the park was evidently
coming into heat; at 2:30 the
buck was following her
continuously, she was urinating
every few minutes + though
the buck attempted to mount
several times she kept
moving ahead of him.
At 3:30 she first took the
buck, at 3:35 the buck
again mounted + from the
actions of both orgasm
was accomplished. She then
moved off into the bush with
the buck following.
At 8 AM next morning
the doe was still urinating
frequently + the buck was
still attempting to copulate
but the doe was evidently
through the climactic period
which accordingly lasted not
longer than 16 hours in
this instance
Cud. Watched young doe chewing the cud,
The cud was brought up as a conspicuous
bolus + during the chewing process
swallowed in 3 or 4 portions.
