May 4, 1955 Westwick Lake.
In A [words crossed out] Dawned clear + sunny after a
calm moonlit night with heavy
ground frost. Some light ice on
waterbuckets.
In AM walked around Westwick
Lake down east side + up west side
watching courtship of Goldeneye +
Bufflehead, looking for nest sites
+ generally prospecting the area.
I took 3 photographs of the lake from
the s [south] end, one of Ranunculus glaberrimus [underlined]
the only plant in full flower also
a patch of lichen including Alectoria [underlined]
Usnea, other lichens. General exposure
f [f-stop] 11+ 1/50 on Ektachrome.
Found 1 dead coyote without sign
of violence; perhaps a poison victim.
1 pr [pair] green winged teal + 5 [male symbol] + 2 [female symbol] shovellor were
new. Yellowheaded + redwing blackbirds abundant.
A few Audubon Warblers.
Erected a fallen goldeneye nest
at the S [south] end of the lake. Found pintail
nest with 3 fresh eggs.
