Sept [September] 6-9 [1929] Black Pines B.C. [British Columbia]
Squirrels very common indeed,
busy gathering fir + pine
cones. They cut off the tips
of the pr [crossed out] branches to get
the pine cones. When cutting
fir cones they throw each
one with a toss of the
head + do not just let it
drop. 15 taken. 2 chip. [chipmunks]
The groundhogs have been
holed up since Aug [August] 20. [1929]
Many of the burrows that
I examined were plugged
with earth a few feet from
the entrance.
I noticed several trees that
had been eaten by porcupines
and on the night of the 7th,
at about 9 o'clock I shot at
one with a 410 but did
not get it.
Farmers reported that
coyotes were quite common
