- outdoor value he has
pasted a Kodak filter #[illegible numbers crossed out] 105R
pale red onto the outside of the flash
Exposures are f5.6
Met also N.A. Holme whose
research is in Ecology of
Lamellibranch [bivalve] faunas of mod. [moderately]
deep waters. I don't think he
has solved the problems of
sampling known areas to
a known depth. He has
an ingenious double scoop
dredge that involves a heavy
frame but this seems to me
to be little better than the
grab dredge.
Caught the train for London
at 4 P.M. + the night train for
Edinburgh.
July 25 [1958] Edinburgh
Arrived this AM [morning] to find
the weather rather good.
Further notes on Plymouth.
They find that a circular dredge
with hinged area suspension
is good for soft bottom sampling
An [illegible word crossed out] anchor dredge digs deepest.
Skin diving has already
secured a new species of
fish - a goby quite common
on rocky shore just off
Plymouth.
Sanded lucite makes an
effective separator in
aquarium tanks. It is being
used to give the illusion of
depth, set into openings in
rock work. Air pumps have
proven very effective in increasing
circulation + bottom oxygen in
the tanks.
Electronically activated flash
can be used for top lighting
an aquarium tank at the same
time as an ordinary flash is
used for the photograph.
f2 automatic biotar lens.
+ Bellows extension very
useful.
