Jasper. June 11/44 [1944]
Warden [Frank] Wells today shot a small
black bear at the Ranger Creek
road camp. It was moulting
on both sides.
Jasper. June 14/44 [1944]
At the dump this afternoon there
were 6 bears, one on the ground
+ all others either sleeping or loafing
up in the branches of some large
firs + spruces.
Jasper June 25/44 [1944]
In last 4 days have seen 2
cinnamon + 1 black bear.
Jasper June 26/44 [1944]
Saw one small cinnamon bear near
the lodge - not moulting yet. At the
garbage dump a small black bear
lay across 3 branches of a Douglas
fir almost 30 ft [feet] from the ground
+ slept restlessly.
Mary Phillips reports seeing a
cub bear - one of 3 - seriously
ill. It fell down repeatedly.
