No luck. --- Sunday August 3 Done Nothing. 159 days out. --- Monday August 4 Got to Cape Lazo at night Anchored. No Whales today. Tuesday August 5 Went to Comox. Got supplies --- Wednesday August 6 Ran up toward Savary Id [island] Saw some Whales. Got no chance. --- Thursday August 7 Beat about between Savary & [and] Vancouver Isd [island]. No Whales. --- Friday August 8 Same as yesterday --- Saturday August 9 Worked down Gulf and Anchored near Texada Id [island] under Rock --- Sunday August 10 At anchor. 166 Days out. --- Monday August 11 Ran towards Qualicum. Saw some Whales. Chased. No chance. --- Tuesday August 12 Beat about Malaspina Strait Came to Anchor in Bargain Hbr [harbor] --- Wednesday August 13 Ran out. Blowing too hard Had to put Back. --- Thursday August 14 Ran around [Upward?] point & [and] Lasquetta [Lasqueti] and anchored at 6 oclock under Rock near Texada. RIGHT PAGE Friday August 15 427 Beat around between Hornby & [and] Gilles Bay & [and] towards Cape Lazo, all day and got no chance --- Saturday August 16 Came in calm. Light N.W. Breeze at 9. Opposite Gilles Bay got a chance. Tired and fastened and fired 4 Bombs into him. Whale sick and spouting Blood, when the Iron drawed. Lost him. Ran into Gilles Bay. --- Sunday August 17 Beat about all day. looking for dead Whale. No luck. --- Monday August 18 Beat about Gulf all day. Got no chance. Anchored at night near Denman Island. --- Tuesday August 19 S.E. gale. Ran into Lambert Channel for wood & [and] water. --- Wednesday August 20 Beat to Windward. Ran down towards Normandy Island. Saw no Whales. --- Thursday Aug. 21 Got under weight at 5:30. Stood towards Hornby. Saw no Whales At noon stood down Gulf. Saw 2 Whales. Fired at one, but Iron did not fasten, Too Far. --- Friday Aug. 22 N.W. Breeze. Got under Weigh at 6. Stood towards Seeschelt Calm at 10. At 12 stiff S.E. Blow Saw 2 Whales. Sea too heavy. Came to anchor at 6 oclock under Normandy Point
