Dawned overcast but cleared
slightly by mid morning + sun
came out sporadically in afternoon.
Traps held 17 rats, 3 of them repeats.
1 dead + one escaped me during
handling.
Waterfowl mallard 3.
Green w. [winged] teal 2.
In the evening we took 9 new rats
as well as several repeats. We
now have 27 rats tagged on this lake
+ our chance of getting untagged
animals is decreasing rapidly. However
I will keep after these dens for a day
or two yet to try + determine
the number of young in each
if that is possible.

Returned to Grassy Lake this morning
+ found 11 rats in the traps, 10 of
them repeats. Hunted around
a bit more + found a den in
the mouth of one tributary stream
+ found another pot hole joined
to the lake + containing an active
colony.
