  • Felis concolor [underlined] Banff, Alta. [Alberta] April 24/43 [1943] Warden [Bruce] Mitchell tells me that in their thorough traverse of the Bow Valley during the winter they found tracks of just two Mt. [mountain] lions. Banff. April 28/43 [1943] Warden [Ernest] Stenton found 2 young rams killed by lions (fresh tracks) up Carrot Cr. [creek] They were about 3/4 miles apart + only a few pounds from flank + rump of each had been eaten. Later ate more from 2nd kill. Warden thinks 4 cougar were in the valley. Kootenay Park. April 29/43 [1943] Warden [J.J.] Meredith reports signs of 2 lions. Known to have killed 2 elk. One of these was an ad. [adult] cow - examined + skull saved. Carrot Creek. June 4/43. [1943] Kill. Found a 3 year old ram killed by lion + untouched. It lay in a thicket of small poplars at the base of a rimrock. Fecal pellet. 1 - 100% sheep. Kill. Found 8 year old ram apparently lion kill on Carrot creek between 2 young rams mentioned above. Vermilion Crossing, B.C. June 24/43 [1943] J.J. Meredith estimates 4-5 lions have ranges including parts of the park.
