In evening spent 4 hours on the
lake using two canoes. I worked
the round lake + Ward [Stevens] the west
side of the big lake. I tagged 3
[male symbol] rats, the 1 [male symbol] rat.
Waterfowl seen. Old squaw. 1 [male symbol] 1 [female symbol].
Surf Scoter 38 [male symbol] 2 [female symbol].

In morning picked up the live
traps, also the mouse traps we had
set in the Carex [underlined] meadow. In afternoon
wrote notes + fixed up steel traps
then went across the river with
[Bert] Boxer + explored two lakes just
north of camp, a small one + #5.
Both are steep sided lakes that flooded
this year for the first time in
several years. Rich in animal
food, Amphipods, small pelecopods +
insects very obvious. Little plant
