Lac La Hache. July 21/49 [1949].
In morning drove Watson Lake,
It proved to be a long operation
as we started the drive at 10:30 and
did not get the birds in the trap
until 4 P.M. The 3 boats drove
from N [North] to S [South] the length of the lake,
one on each shore + myself
shuttling back + forth across the
lake. Cottle + Sugden ashore
beating the reeds. At the trap the
two beaters were stationed together
and together with the 3 boats
executed a pivoting drive
that netted 230 +/- ducks. Of these
about 70 scaups. 2 broods of
teal were too small to band.
One adult bufflehead, banded prev. [previously]
entered the outer trap but later
escaped. One red-head yng [young] banded on
105 mile lake was recaptured.
