  • Ursus americanus [underlined] Jasper, Alta [Alberta] - April, 17/43. [1943] Bear reported as frequent predators on beaver particularly where the beaver have to travel far for food Also had to shoot a bear that took to killing goats (g. vide[?]) 4-5 goats 1935 Jasper April 21/43 [1943] Saw bear tracks around garbage dump but only a few are out yet. Banff, Alta. [Alberta] April 24/43 [1943] Warden [Percy] Woodworth reports 37 bear feeding at one time on the garbage heap at Lake Louise. April 27/43 [1943] One bear active on city dump. [Warden Ernest] Stenton reports one [female symbol] with 4 cubs last year 2 brown + 2 black. Banff, Alta. [Alberta] June 7/43 [1943] On N. [north] side of Minnewanka found two deposits of bear feces. One consisted of entirely of deer remains costal cartilages and parts of wind pipe. Included were 3 nose fly larvae the epidermis entirely undigested. The other fecal mass was entirely grass except for a very small amount of bearberry foliage. A bear was working an elk carcass I found above Minnewanka Cabin.
