- Aug. [August] 4, 1936, Indianpoint Lake, B.C. [British Columbia]
Today we encountered
a [female symbol] otter with two part
grown young. They were
in a small bay + as we
quietly approached up wind
in the canoe they became
quite agitated, rising high
out of the water, exposing
the entire head + neck.
When I fired at the [female symbol]
with small shot she
dived + came up in
the reeds where she
stayed coughing, barking
+ growling until she
got my scent she then
quietly made off. The
young meanwhile had
vanished from sight.
Doubtless she returned
for them later, as they
did not go with her.
