- July 15 Thursday. In the car to Guildford . Bought 2 Staffordshire jugs for Philip's wedding present, & a pair of pinchbeck earrings for Laura, 5/-. Also putters & golf balls at Woolworths. Heavy weather, rain in evening. 10 pages of Ghost chapter VII. Smiths Dictionary of Bible, Christian Biography, Christian Antiquities – 10 huge volumes, & Milman's Latin Christianity in 8 volumes came, Procopius in 6. (one to follow). Reading Procopius. ¿ How to deal with the ineluctable mauve carpet & the irremediable yellow-brown fire-place tiles?
