- Thursday Oct 29th Saw Dr. Ham; who prescribed. To Southampton (L and I) by train, eating ham-sandwiches met by Violet & Walter. Lunch at Old Burseledon. Then Walter fetched Tom & Julie & we all stayed the night. At listening-in exciting news of a successful Government offensive, with capture of Castelejon. Walter incredulous: he believes that hundreds of nuns have been burned & raped by the Reds. I said 'On military grounds, I'm not sure that Franco will get Madrid.' He offered to bet any money, Laura said “Don't, it's unlucky.” Slept in room with Tom, L with Julie. Brought ruby bowl to Violet. She & W. go off to Austria & Jugoslavia Yugoslavia on Thursday. They She boasts ["]I cant can't speak a word of the any language but I never accept their prices.["]
