War diaries are official records kept by the Battalions during a one month period. The diary provides a daily summary of events, actions, activities, etc. The January 1919 diary begins with the Battalion in Lindlar spending New Year's day as a holiday with an address by Colonel Peck, moving to Huy in Belgium by train and then to Antheit for the rest of the month where they started a Battalion school and engaged in training, games, parades, and lectures. The month ends with lists of casualties and decorations awarded and Operation Orders. The February diary has the Battalion in Antheit for the whole month where they played football, trained, a successful review at Liege with massed bands, funeral for Brig-General Tuxford whose grave was put in the town cemetary as a permanent memorial to the men of the Commune killed in the war, and the first and second party of Officers and men left for England to return to Canada. The March diary begins with the Battalion in Antheit where there was the Presentation of the King's Colour by Major-General Sir A.C. Macdonnell, taking the train for Le Havre then to Weymouth and lastly Bramshott in East Hampshire. The April diary begins in Bramshott for the month where they had medical inspections including delousing and were put on leave until they were able to leave back to Canada.
