- July 22 Wednesday Santa Magdalena Heavy day: fleet expected at Palma, with fear of bloodshed. Saw a warship pass (British: Devonshire) and an aeroplane but apparently nothing. (Made a tour of island) No certain news. Radios from Continent say that revolt is being broken. Almudaina the reverse. Schools & cooked lunch, finished painting Posada door. Magdalena 's fiesta: cake & champagne. Pedro wants to offer himself. Laura & I begged Madora not to let G. go in tomorrow. Pancho has gone as a volunteer, he says. (Really an excuse for women?) Bernardo anxious about Marcos at Barcelona. Champagne at Schw. Felt rather sick. 7 Carabineros of Pollenza shot. Bernardo nominated mayor. The Air France machines destroyed by their mechanic to prevent their seizure by Fascists. No post since Monday.
