- Jan 24th Friday. It hasn't rained for weeks and the beans & peas are dying. Nobody feeling well. Sun very hot & wind started up agian. Richards sent proof corrections forwarded to U.S. & to F.F. Also, half the proofs of Lars Porsena : sent off. News that James & Mary Phillips are to be married at Easter. Finished Welsh Ecc Habits . With Gelat to see how almond trees have struck: nearly all have. First review of Epilogue : in New Statesman : not a review, nasty & long. Planted McC's St Brigid anemones in pots. Wrote to James & to Mary. Note on book-advertizing.
