Purple Martin PUMA 611a
Progne subis hesperia
A pair seen flying about top of
Hudson Bay Vanc [Vancouver] Isl [Island] building, occasionally
one would rest on top of flag pole or
on edge of roof May 1922.
May 4th 1923. Seven purple martin
seen flying about top of HB [Hudson Bay] building
on Granville + Georgia Sts [streets]. One pair
in particular appeared to be examining
every nook + corner for a possible
nesting site. These birds noticed
copulating on wing.
In 1912 a large colony fo [crossed out] of these
birds were noticed breeding at
the corner where the Interurbane
Street Cars turn off Commercial
drive for Burnaby Lake. When visited
in 1920 the colony house had
disappeared + no birds were in
evidence
May 24th 1923
Two purple martin seen flying
about near old mens home in east
end.
June 9/24 [1924] a pair seen from
office window Birks Bldg [building]
June 1928. Two pair nested
in Orpheum building + young were
successfully raised.
May 2. 1930 A pair of Purple Martin
seen flying about old Orpheum Bldg [building]
evidently arrived during night.
Purple Martin left Vancouver, B.C. between
Sept [September] 5th + 7th 1929. On 5th a flock of 15/20 were
