ABSTRACT: Major James Geoffrey Costeloe Costeloe_G_0567_01.mp3 (First Interview) Family background-Father Church of England Parson Commissioned in 1940-Border Regiment Aldershot Liverpool - 100 men fire watching Spent time in different locations around Britain before being sent to North Africa to launch into Sicily-glided in Landed in the Sea - picked up and taken back to North Africa to prepare for invasion of Italy in Toranto Arnhem (1st Airborne Division on reserve for D- Day) Morale very strong but lucky to get out of Arnhem alive-sent back to England Volunteered to go to Burma - 1st Airborne Division so depleted obvious not going to go back into action.
