Web of life 23 : territorial behaviour of the Uganda kob
This half-hour series was broadcast in four runs from 1959 to 1963, except 1962. It started as a twenty-six week examination of different forms of animal life, and added more programs in subsequent years. The series was hosted, written and narrated by Dr. Ian McTaggart-Cowan. This episode was based on research and script by Dr. Helmut K. Buechner. Dr. Cowan introduced the animals living in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park and Semuliki Wildlife Reserve in Uganda. He focused on the Uganda kobs and the relationship between the kobs and their territorial ground. Territorial behavior of the Uganda kob is largely the defense of small, fixed territories within a central area of concentrated territorial activity. Females enter the territorial ground throughout the year for the purpose of breeding.
