Nita Lake B.C. [British Columbia] [illegible word] July 1st 1922
Hot dry weather
Several of these birds seen near
Nita Lake + later a nest was found
in a tall dead stub. This stub was about
15 to 18 inches in diameter + was located
on the upper side of an old clearing on
the hillside above the railroad track
Entrance hole was about 25 feet above
ground + the parent birds were observed
flying in + out feeding the young whose
continuous squeaking cry could be
distinctly head. Later a male bird
was taken, it was flying from tree to
tree with feathers ruffed up + looked
as if ill. On examination of the body
after skinning it was found that
the abdominal cavity was a mass of
small tape + white worms about an
inch to one inch + a half long. These
worms were inside + outside the intestine
+ were clustered about the testes + over the back
The testes were almost an orange colour
+ shrunk to a very small size [circles depicting size of testes] One
being slightly larger than the other. The
birds eyelids were puffed + swollen.

Common about Peardonville +
several taken by Ian [McTaggart] Cowan + self.

A juv [juvenile] [male symbol] taken in alders near house
this a.m. [morning], #2323. Red plumage very dark.
Later during morning saw five of these
