steel trap in the willows.
In the afternoon Mr [Kenneth] Racey arrived
back at camp after a hard trip
into the Itcha mountains 3 days
ride west of here. "Beaver not
much further up than the falls,
moose very abundant only the
bulls being at the higher altitudes
being seen up to 6000' altitude
but coming down to the meadows
at 5500' to browse. Deer fairly
common. Caribou getting very
scarce owing to frequent
depradations [depredations] by the Blackwater
Indians. 4 skulls seen on
the range. Mice had been common
but now gone. All the fur
has been poisoned off by the
Indians.
Set out some more traps down
the N. [North] side of the river for Pack
rats.
Aug [August] 21 [1931] Took a female flying
squirrel in the Jack pine
fairly close to the
place I took the last.
