Today Joyce [Cowan] + I encountered a [female symbol] otter
with to [two] half grown young. They
were in a small bay + as we
quietly approached upwind in
the canoe they became much
agitated, rising high out of the
water, exposing the entire head
+ neck
I fired at the female but pulled
the wrong trigger + only frightened
her. She dived + came up in the
reeds where she stayed coughing,
barking + growling until she
got my scent. She then quietly
made off. In the meantime the
young had vanished. They did
not go with her.
