- Marmota caligata [underlined]
Monashee Pass. June 27/37 [1937].
Saw a single indiv. [individual] at 4000' on
the east side of the second lake on
McIntyre creek.
Mt. [Mount] Revelstoke. July 1/37 [1937].
Marmots abundant at 6000'.
Prefer rock slides facing south
west. Except where frequently
disturbed they are very tame
One taken was eaten [eating] cotton
rush. I noticed much used
nesting material outside some of
the burrows. This was entirely
dried grass + sedge. The 2 [male symbol]'s
taken today were both without
fat. No young out.
July 5. Mt [Mount] Revelstoke
Caught an ad [adult] [female symbol] in a trap
baited with groundsquirrel.
July 8 Same place.
Revisited 2 slides that a week
ago harboured 3 marmots each.
None were present. I have on
5 occassions [occasions] come upon animals
roaming far from any burrows
or slides. It would appear that
the breeding season is early as I took
a very young one today. Testes of
[male symbol]'s still scrotal
