8 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik. June 10/47 [1947].
Mr Bert Boxer states that on his
line he takes about 8-9 mink a
year.
55 mi [miles] N.W. [northwest] Aklavik. June 25, 1947
Found a nest burrow of a mink in
a low ridge running out into a lake.
There was a waterline entrance +
another on the crest of the ridge.
A defecatorium about 18" [inches] from the
upper entrance consisted of about
30 feces. These I collected. A trap
set at the lower entrance took a
nursing [female symbol] at 5 in the afternoon or
just before. Wing of a green winged
teal + the hind leg of a rabbit were
the only food remains at the den.
June 26/47 [1947]
Excavated the den, apparently an old
muskrat working. Two water-level
entrances + one above led about
4 1/2 ft [feet] to a grass lined chamber
10" [inches] in diameter. In a side burrow
was another nest consisting merely
of a saucer of grass. The entire
skin of a rabbit + some fur of a
leveret were the only food remains.
The female had 4 placental scars
and was almost dry yet we found
no young in the nest.
