Transcript:
[Poster 2, left panel, second part of the story:] In the third lunar month of spring, Wu Song returned from the Eastern capital, reported to his superiors, and went to visit his brother. How was he to know that when he entered and drew back the curtain, Wu Dalang’s memorial tablet would be set up inside the house? With the instigation of [the matchmaker] Old Woman Wang, [Wu Dalang’s wife] Pan Jinlian had formed an adulterous liaison with Ximen Qing, they had poisoned Wu Dalang, and to hide their crime they had cremated the corpse to destroy the evidence and create a false impression. When Wu Song learned the facts he made an indictment to the authorities, but without success. In an uncontrollable rage to avenge his brother, he cut off Pan Jinlian’s head, then, grasping his knife, he ran to Lion Hall and had a savage fight with Ximen Qing, cutting off his head, and thus removing a horror from the people of Yanggu. Truly: Two heads were presented to the memorial, Wu Song took revenge on his brother’s behalf, From ancient times injustices will be avanged, Good and evil will always get their due. [Poster 2, right panel, fourth part of the story:] After being beaten by Wu Song in Kuaihuo Mountain, “Door-god” Jiang could not bear the humiliation, and sought help from Commander Zhang and Militia-head Zhang. The three of them came up up a ruse to get Wu Song appointed instructor in the local military, and fabricated a charge against him stating that Wu Song has stolen valuables from the Commander's house. Wu Song was imprisoned and then exiled to Enzhou because of this false charge. “Door-god”Jiang was still not satisfied, so he bribed the guards and hired an assassin to kill Wu Song on the way to his exile. Contrary to his expectations, Wu Song killed the guards and the assassin in Feiyunpu. Then Wu Song broke into Commander Zhang's Yuanyang Tower at night and killed the three villains as they waited for news [of Wu Song’s death]. Wu Song finally avenged the injustice against him. Truly: Villains conspired and devised a plot; Wu Song fought his way out with iron fists; In killing the wicked officials, Wu Song let their blood flow in the Yuanyang Tower.

[Poster 1, left panel, first part of the story: characters on rock:] Jingyang Ridge [caption] Wu Song bade Song Jiang farewell and went home to visit his elder brother. His path took him to Jingyang township, where he drank 18 bowls of wine at an inn, then ran drunkenly straight to Jingyang Ridge. Exhausted in mid-journey, Wu Song leaned against a rock and closed his eyes to recover. With a sound like a thunderclap, the king of beasts flew out of the mountains. The tiger had a body the size of a rhinoceros, its head was like a wicker basket, and it leaped at him, huge mouth open. Wu Song sobered up from fright, turned a somersault and dodged the tiger; he wielded his club and split the tiger’s cheeks, then brandished his fist and broke the tiger’s nose. With a flying leap, he straddled the tiger’s back and rained blows down on its head. After 35 blows, the tiger that had been terrifying all its life now had no breath in its body. Truly: Paying no mind but embarking blithely on a long journey, He steeled himself and went up Jingyang Ridge, Drunkenly he came and beat a mountain tiger to death, Winning a great reputation everywhere. [Poster 1, right panel, third part of the story:]] Wu Song avenged his brother by killing Ximen Qing and Pan Jinlian, and turned himself in to the authorities. He was sentenced to exile in Mengzhou. In Mengzhou, Wu Song made the acquaintance of Shi En the Golden-eyed Tiger-cat. With Shi En's father as guarantor, Wu Song lived in Shi En's house on parole. After hearing to Shi En's grievances and witnessing with his own eyes, Wu Song learned that “Door-god” Jiang, a local tyrant, was conspiring with local authorities, commiting all kinds of evil, and tyrannizing the people. To rid the Shi family and the people of this evil, Wu Song could not contain his fury, and wrought havoc in Kuaihuo Mountain, beating “Door-god” Jiang while drunk. To the delight of the people, “Door-god” Jiang was knocked flat and begged for mercy, thus losing his prestige. Truly: Where he raised his fists, Thunder roared; When his feet flew, A storm arose. Wu Song wreaked havoc in Kuaihuo Mountains And righteously beat “Door-god” Jiang while drunk.
