Frank and Cecilia Sylvester Collection

Frank Sylvester was an early Jewish settler to Victoria, involved in the Fire Department and the negotiation of Labour Contracts.

- Description:
- A leaflet advertising how great and splendid the port in Victoria is. On the front it has a photo of the outer harbour under construction and another of the location of a new dry-dock in Esquimalt Harbour. It also has a drawing of the plan for a breakwater and new piers in the outer harbour at Ogden Point on Dallas Road. The population of Victoria at the beginning of 1913 is given at 66, 000 people along with a claim that Victoria has the best all-year weather. The back of the pamphlet has photos of the Inner Harbour from 1903 and 1912 along with statistics showing the growth and progress of the area over 10 years taken from official records of the city and Dominion Government. These statistics include: Tonnage of Vessels; Import Duties; Building Permits; Bank Clearings; Tramway Traffic; Post Office Receipts; Property Assessments; Annual Temperature; Bright Sunshine.
