153. Esquimalt Harbour

- Esquimalt Harbour
- Description:
- Surveyed by Capt. Richards and the officers of the H.M.S. Plumber in 1858 and the interior from a survey by Pemberton in 1860, this map shows the Esquimalt Harbour and surrounding land of the Esquimalt District. Includes detailed relief marks along the coast of the harbour and on the hills namely Mill Hill, Seymour Hill, Signal Hill and Rod Hill. District Boundary Lines are shown for the adjacent Lake and Victoria Districts and there is information about the tides, winds, and the location of the Fisgard Lighthouse under the map's title. There is a government reserve and War Dept. Property areas along with some notes on the water about what colour the light shows in that area. Soundings are recorded in feet throughout the water. The islands, coves, bays, points, passes, and capes in the harbour are present and named along with the heights of land and where the settlements and buildings like hospitals and Thetis Cottage are. Some of the features of interest include Coburg Peninsula, Salt Lagoon, Fisgard Island, Belmont, Yew Point, Dunns Nook, Macarthy Island, Smart Island, Patterson Point, Cole Island, Richards Island, Thetis Cove, Inskip Island, Paddy's Pass, Dallas Bank, Constance Cove, Pilgrim Cove, Lang Cove, Thetis Island, Dantze Head, and Brothers Islands.

- Surveyed by Capt. G.H. Richards and the officers of the H.M.S. Plumper and engraved by J. & C. Walker, this map shows the islands surrounding Haro Strait and Middle Channel [San Juan Channel] in British Columbia and Washington State. Detailed relief shading, sketches, and notes show the land cover and land forms. Many places and features are named along with soundings in fathoms in the bodies of water. The islands shown include San Juan, Shaw Island, Orcas Island, Waldron Island, Saturna Island, Mayne Island, Pender Island, Prevost Island, Admiral Island [Salt Spring Island], Stuart Island, Moresby Island, Portland Island, Coal Island, Piers Island, Spieden Island, and part of Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island is labeled with the different land districts indcluding Victoria, Lake [Saanich], Highland [Highlands], South Saanich, North Saanich, and Esquimalt. The channels, inlets, harbours, bays, and sounds are labeled and include False Bay, Douglas Channel [President Channel], Swanson Channel, and Saanich Inlet among many others. Several areas are highlighted in red - some were Reserves while others were referred to as Indian Village. The Reserves shown are Chautlip Indians [Tsartlip Nation: South Saanich 1, Senanus Island 10 and Mayne Island 6]; Saikum Indians [Tseycum Nation: Union Bay 4 Reserve]; Indian Reserve [Esquimalt Nation Reserve]; Quw'utsun/Cowichan Tribes: part of Cowichan 1; Tsawout Nation: Saturna Island 7; Songhees Nation: Chatham Island 4 and Discovery Islands 3; Beecher Bay Nation: Village Island 7, Whale Island 8 and Long Neck Island 9.

- Description:
- Victoria and Esquimalt with the land divided into numbered plots of land and named streets. Has handwritten notes in red ink from the 1920's and 1930's including changes to street names. Relief markings and sketches show the land cover and land forms. Places and features named include Songees Village, Rock Bay, Victoria Harbour, properties belonging to Governor Douglas and R. Finlayson, the Fort, church reserve, and a public park. Includes three letters from March to April 1913 between the Surveyor-General and the Inspector of Legal Offices about officially moving this map from the custody of the Lands Department to the Land Registry Office by request of the Solicitor of the City of Victoria.

- Official Map of the Town of Victoria
- Description:
- A map of the city of Victoria and Victoria Harbour including streets, numbered lots, public parks, church reserves, cemeteries and suburban lots. It also has the Esquimalt District which appears to be undeveloped at this time save for a Songees Village and a road. The map has hand-written in red ink corrections to road names and a mostly illegible legend with corrections to lot sizes with a note from the Deputy Registrar on February 23, 1926. The title is in ornate text.
