  • arrangements for transport from Osaka to Victoria. It was Mr. Orv Coulter of Coulter Construction who undertook the intricate work of installation after Johnston Special Services had swung the Shrine by crane over the wall of the Japanese Garden. Trio Ready Mix provided the foundation cement; Mr. John Neilson and Dr. Judy Patt of the Board of Trustees provided architectual supervision; and Barry Till, Curator of Asian Art, contributed both his vision to proceed and overall supervision of the project. Many Gallery staff members assisted him, and me, in organizing the purchase and installation, and to all a very special thanks, particularly Morris Redecopp, Antoinette Church, Ann McMurdo, Chris Russell and Don Sutherland. On March 6, the Honourary Patronsofthe Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, His Honour Mr. Robert G. Rogers, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and Mrs. Rogers, with Consul Shinomiya of Japan, the Honourable Hugh Curtis, and Mrs. Diane McLaren, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, presided over the historic occasion of the opening of the permanent display of a unique architectural work in North America. We trust it will be another important link in the visual arts of British Columbia and Japan. Patricia E. Bovey Director May, 1987 4
