- May 30 [crossed out] 29/42 [1942] (contd [continued]) catfish was caught close to shore
in weak condition. It had a
raw spot on top of head, fungused
area on side + inflamed areas at
bases of pectorals.
A mass of several hundred eggs
of unknown species of fish was found
attached to Equisetum stem in
shallows near shore - well advanced
living embryos - pale yellow in colour;
saved alive for possible identification
Possibly chub.
Also collected several shells of
fresh water clam - Anodonta (?)
Birds on Hatzic Lake -
Coot, Trumpeter swan, pied bill [billed]
grebe, Heron, crow (1 collected0
Osprey, Tule wren (nesting).
Four or 5 Wood duck were seen in
Nicomen Island Slough.
Arrived at Smith Falls Hatchery, Cultus
Lake at 7:30 P.M. Fred Martin in
charge; put up there for our stay
