- Bare or Ridge Island.
June 18/41 [1941] Visited this island after leaving Ballingall.
Birds appear to be much more numerous
than last year. Many Pelagic cormorants
nesting where none were in previous year
no young cormorants out yet in nests
examined. One gull hatchling.
Saw one Puffin. Examined nest
site of previous year but no egg present.
July 23 Young Pelagic cormorants were noted
in several nests on this date but still
in early stages of growth. Saw brooding
parents bird feed young while sitting
on nest. Eggs were present in many
nests yet (Pelagic) and crows were
busy stealing them.
Saw change of shift of parent Pelagics
on two nests; both parents evidently take
part in brooding + feeding.
Saw guillemots taking small fish
to nesting site: both birds working.
Two downy young were in this nest
Saw one gull brooding eggs. Many
young visible in all parts. Observed
fueding in several cases. Parent disgorges
crumbly brown mass while young pick
up from ground.
No puffin seen.
