- Ascaphus truei [tailed frog] (contd [continued])
June 2/42 [1942]
In going over the lower part of the
same stream after night fall with the aid
of head lamps three larger tadpoles
with hind legs developing were taken.
These are presumably in their 2nd year +
were found in the larger pools
First year tadpoles were also taken
and also 2 adult females. The
latter were within 2 feet of each
other, on the bank close to the water;
one in the act of climbing over a stone,
the other sitting on the end of a stick.
Night collecting is apparently much
more productive even over same area
covered by daylight.
No salamanders were seen. One
Bufo [toad] was taken.
A stream almost a mile south
of Sunshine Creek was examined but nothing
was found. Stream larger but showed
signs of much flooding.
Bufo [toad] found here also
June 10 [1942] Total length of 2nd year Ascaphus tadpole 53mm [millimeter]
- Specimen died in captivity
Aug [August] [illegible date] - One yr [year] tadpole found dead.
