- The Chinese treasured Burmese jadeite because of its gemlike quality and named it feicui yu (meaning kingfisher jade after the brilliant green plumage of beautiful bird in south China) or Yunnan yu (because it was introduced into from Burma via the province of Yunnan.)
Hongli (1711 -1799), on ascending the throne he took the reign title Qianlong (ruled: 1 736-95).
Phase III 1813-1861
It was during Phase III, from 1813 to 1861, that there was a considerable decline in the jade craft at the palace. Less enthusiasm towards jade in the latter part of Jiaqing�s reign spelled disaster for the jade industry and to make matters worse, it was decided to cut the annual jade tribute in half.
When Daoguang came to the throne in 1821, he recognized the depleted state of the national finances and embarked on a policy of frugality, which continued throughout his reign.
