- Aug [August] 16 [1944] (contd [continued]) Sandwich lunch 2 pm at Cache Creek
Arrived Kamloops 4:45. Put up in
basement of Dom. Ent. Lab. - Canal Flats.
Seen en route [underlined] - Infestations of
[illegible word]? bugs on Box maple at Lytton.
Many stages of nymph + mating pairs.
Plover at Cache Creek.
Delicate looking Orthopteraus [Orthoptera] ( [space left blank] )
on gum weed near crest of hill out of
Savonna [Savona].
Great numbers of grasshoppers - some
with govering flight + distinctive wing clap.
Flock of Cowbirds - Cache Creek
Brewer's blackbirds; heron at Lytton.
Marmot - near Ashcroft + another 5 mi. [miles] out
of Kamloops. Eastern kingbirds, butterballs
[August] 17 [1944] Up at 7 - Explored along river +
found dead shrew in porthole. Shot
1 goldfinch (to try dart shot - at circ [about] 20' [feet]
bird flew about 50 feet after being hit then
dropped dead.) Shot sparrowhawk which
I observed harrowing a sandpiper
on lake shore. The wader would dash peeping
into the water each time the hawk dove.
Chased + made passes at kingbird also but nothing
but insect (grasshopper?) remains in stomach
In mid afternoon went to town, shopped + visit
City Museum in charge of Mr. Campbell of Kamloops
Sentinal. Dinner at Hollands.
