- Lac La Hache July 19/48 [1948].
Tried a second drive on Murphy
Lake but the ducks were all
so wild they would not go near
the trap. We caught just 6
birds, and one Ruddy yng [young] that
drowned itself upon release.
On 5 mi [mile] Creek dam there was
a good group of scaups
with broods of 5, 6, 4, 9, 9, + 22 with
2 [female symbol]'s. Also buffleheads 5, 3, 1.
Coot 3 prs [pairs] with uncounted yng [young].
went into Caribou Bill Lake +
saw there Scaup, 13, 13, 6, 8, 8. Holboell grebes 8 prs [pairs] + large yng [young].
+ Redhead 6. A local resident
reports many nests of eggs in
the hayfields including shovellor.
One brood of geese on the Lake.
It is a shallow marsh bordered
lake with extensive marginal
hay meadows.
The unnamed Lake to the S. [South] had
Canvasback 5 yng [young], mallard 6 yng [young],
ruddies, coots etc [etcetera].
