Island View Beach.
Saanich, V.I. [Vancouver Island], B.C. [British Columbia]
Sept. [September] 27, 1935
Stretch of pebbly beach about
3 miles long. on a sheltered
coast facing James Island.
On the land side is a considerable
stretch of salt meadow with
occasional slough holes. Along
the beach are large numbers
of drift logs + pile of rotting
kelp; in a narrow belt
about 100 yards from the shore
is a strip of brush composed
almost entirely of briar,
spirea + wild crab apple. Some
snowberry.

5 Song sparrows.

The Purple finches, Flickers + Robins
were eating crab apples to the
exclusion of the other types of
