Ming dynasty; early 16th century
d. 17.2 cm; The Reid Collection
This dish is decorated with two white
cranes (the symbol of longevity) standing
next to a pine tree, rocks and water. The
rim is decorated with lotus, hibiscus and
chrysanthemums. This dish has a hole in
the centre which was crudely filled with a
metal plug. It may have originally been a
part of a pricket candlestick. The colours
include; red, white, turquoise-blue, dark
green, yellow, and mixed yellow-green and
red-brown, on a dark purple ground.
