- Mammals [contd [continued])
9 Grizzly bear - none seen by us but droppings
+ diggings (for ground squirrels) were common around
mine buildings + at upper end of valley
10 Mountain goat - flock of 5 (3 adults
+ 2 young) seen on the 25th. Two seen
by Hardy in valley to South on 30. Tracks of first flock
observed going north over ridge.
11 Moose - occasionally wander up from
below. One shot on road not long ago. Hide, +
skull still in camp.
12 Caribou - appear on Spring Creek side
of ridge in hot weather - driven over by
flies according to Barbour.
13 Pike - Common in all rock piles + slides. Busy
last thing at dusk + 1st thing in the morning
Many piles of rat food plants were seen + some
were found to contain the following.-
Food plants - alpine willow herb (in mouth of trapped individual)
