Bulldozer - No. 02, Fall/Winter 1997

An anarchist publication from Toronto made to support prisoners in various penal institutions. It began in 1980 and featured articles, letters, art, poetry etc. by prisoners and ex-prisoners. By Spring 1997 it had incorporated another journal called the Prison News Service and began to focus more on justice-related issues in Canada, namely: prisons, local jails, refugee detention centres, and First Nations self-determination. In this issue: "Manickavasagam Suresh: justice denied"; "Hunger strike at Metro West"; "Update: prison for women"; "Dozer notes"; "Remember Darlene McNeil!"; "Jane Doe on justice"; "The case of parminder Singh Saini"; "Yuppies try to kick sex-trade worker out of her neighbourhood"; "Kingston Penitentiary: another riot, another inquiry, another whitewash"; "Millhaven MSU still on lockdown"; ""Like a dog in a back kennel" death exposes CSC policy on prisoners with HIV/AIDS"; "Issues of concern to the general population of Millhaven's MSU from February 1997"; "Justice for Garnette Silversmith"; "Community service for killer of Dudley George"; "Art Solomon, Ojibway elder dies (1914-1997)"; "Request for traditional burial of Anishnabe man still unhonoured"; "Akil Al-Jundi, 1941-1997"; "International day to resist the imprisonment of Leonard Peltier"; "The system vs. Geronimo: why?" by Mumia Abu-Jamal; "Anti-gang law = more repression"; "Bootcamp kids bust out"; "Norma Jean Croy update: a continued call for support"; "Ts'peten defenders sentenced"; "Interview with Wolverine"; "Latest casualty: Manish Odhavji; "The murder of Hugh Dawson"; "Some thoughts on using the cops to catch the Parkdale killer"; "Friends of the Lubicon vs Daishowa: the story so far"; "OCAP vs. Intelligarde: the case against wannabe police brutality"; "The war zone: Wendy Funk's battle with the psychiatric system"; "What to do when you or someone you know goes crazy"; "Herbs"; "Penetang brother: update on Paul Conway"; "Interview with Ward Churchill"; Bookshelf; Resources.
